Mac or Windows PC? The winner has been determined

There have been serious declines in many areas for many reasons, including the chip crisis and the pandemic. One of them is the computer industry. Although there has been a small recovery recently, who is in control of this area, which is still behind the pre-pandemic levels? IDC shared its sales figures and growth rates in its latest report. Thus, a new answer came with sales figures to the curious question of Mac or Windows PC.

MacBook or Windows PC? Here are the global PC sales figures

The decline in the PC market continues unabated. While this was reflected in the reports published recently, it was stated that only one company was profitable in this process: Apple. The US manufacturer greatly increased the sales figures of the industry with its Mac models, and Lenovo, HP and Dell giants, which have been operating in this field for years, started to catch up in sales.

Global Windows PC and Mac sales figures

According to IDC’s latest report, the computer market experienced a 15% decrease in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year. Sales figures of 87.3 million last year fell to 74.2 million this year.

The countdown has begun for iPhone models with USB-C support. However, it seems that Apple has a completely different plan on this issue.

As of the third quarter of 2022, the company selling the most PCs is Lenovo with 16.8 million. Holding a 22.70 percent market share, the manufacturer is facing a 16.10 percent decrease in sales compared to last year. The company that suffered the most from this process is HP. The company, which sold 12.7 million PCs in the third quarter, is facing a 27.80 percent shrinkage compared to last year. However, it still ranks second with a 17.10 percent market share. The same is true for Dell.

Unlike other competitors, Apple sold 10 million Macs as of the third quarter of 2022. The US manufacturer, which increased its sales by 40.20 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, has a 13.50 percent market share as of now.

Considering the last report, it is possible to say that Windows PCs are still at the forefront of sales figures. However, if this decline experienced by companies producing Windows PCs continues for a while, Mac sales, which are increasing day by day, may pave the way for Apple to become the leader in this market.
