Berlin Tiredness, exhaustion, difficulty concentrating: A corona infection can have long-term consequences, some of which are serious. “It can affect anyone,” says Jördis Frommhold, chief physician for respiratory diseases at the median clinic in Heiligendamm. In her clinic, she treats precisely such patients with long-term consequences. “My patients are often young high achievers,” she says. “For them, a world collapses with the diagnosis.”
Those who are particularly badly affected “just letting them continue to work in their job will not work in most cases,” she says. “As a society, we have to learn how to deal with that.” Companies could also help with this. “It’s a start when employers support gradual reintegration,” she says. “A further step would be for the company doctors to be trained and to promote exercises in the company.” Bosses also need to be made aware.
