According to the report prepared by Statcounter, there were unexpected changes in desktop market share. Accordingly, Linux reached a usage rate of 4 percent for the first time in its history. This represents a critical rise for Linux, which had a share of just 1.53 percent in late 2020.
Industry observers have stated that there are several key factors contributing to the growth of Linux on the desktop. Chief among these are the very demanding system requirements of Windows 11. This made older computers incompatible with Windows. Users also preferred to switch to Linux.

Huawei and Chinese manufacturer JAC reached an agreement for the new automobile factory. Vehicles based on Huawei’s platforms will be produced.
On the other hand, Linux’s installation process and its more user-friendliness made it easier to try the operating system on older hardware. Continued software and application support for Linux has been highlighted, especially with the rise of cloud-based applications.
Usage rates for the desktop market for February 2024 are as follows:
- Windows – 72 percent
- macOS – 15 percent
- Linux – 4 percent
- ChromeOS – 2 percent
- Other – 6 percent
While prices in the computer market are increasing, it is thought that Linux will continue to grow. Users prefer to install different operating systems on their old computers instead of buying new hardware parts.
