National Lottery Administration imposed access restrictions for Linktree
Access to Linktree, which combines social media accounts in a single connection, has been blocked in Turkey. According to BTK’s data, the linktr.ee domain was closed to access in our country with the decision taken by the General Directorate of National Lottery Administration. This came into force with the decision taken by BTK on 13 October.
Linktree allows social media users to collect their posts and links under a single link. Especially companies, influencers and non-governmental organizations use this service frequently.
The reason for the access block was given as Linktree’s “illegal betting”. In the warning statement on the site, “Illegal betting can be used to finance terrorism. The money you send to illegal betting sites may make you a criminal. “In addition, illegal betting and gambling are crimes.”
Turkey was among the countries where the platform served legally. With the blocking decision, tens of thousands of users operating in our country will not be able to benefit from this service.
Neither the General Directorate of National Lottery Administration nor the Information Technologies and Communications Authority provided any details about how the “illegal betting” took place. However, it is thought that the legal process of the decision will be detailed in the coming days.
