Frankfurt The flight attendant union UFO has to look for a new board of directors. Chairman Daniel Kassa Mbuambi and his deputy Anja Bronstert announced their resignation on Wednesday morning. The reason is a professional reorientation, according to a message to the union members, which is available to the Handelsblatt.

It goes on to say that a by-election for the two board members will take place as soon as possible. Mbuambi will step down from office in mid-November. It is not yet known where he is moving to. He wants to concentrate fully on the next steps in his personal professional development, the statement says.

Bronstert will hand over her position in mid-October. After almost three years, a new career opportunity arose, which she took advantage of, she writes to the UFO members. “I will be handing over a well-positioned UFO with a great, competent team in mid-October.”

According to Handelsblatt information, the deputy union leader is changing employers,

Bronstert is employed by Eurowings and is moving to German Airways, according to information from Handelsblatt from industry circles. There she takes responsibility for the staff.

German Airways belongs to the Zeitfracht family business. The small airline only recently poached Tui manager Oliver Lackmann. A few weeks ago, Zeitfracht boss Wolfram Simon-Schröter told Handelsblatt that he wanted to further develop German Airways. He did not categorically rule out having his own scheduled service. So far, the airline has been flying on behalf of other companies.

UFO leadership duo took over after power struggle

Mbuambi and Bronstert took over the leadership of the UFO in 2021 during a difficult time. For years, a bitter power struggle raged in the union, accompanied by violent accusations. Board members were accused of abuse of office and were said to have given each other orders. The UFO got into financial difficulties and the public prosecutor’s office began an investigation.

After a temporary calming down, the old wounds reopened at the end of 2020. The then UFO boss Daniel Flohr threw in the towel. He complained that decision-making processes were too long and slow. Mbuambi and Bonstert followed in 2021.

Mbuambi writes in the statement that the board of directors started with the agenda of bringing the then crisis-ridden UFO back into calmer waters and improving both the organization’s economic situation and putting the social partnership, especially with Lufthansa, on a solid footing : “In my opinion, we succeeded in everything very well.”
