Frankfurt “I’ve got sunshine in my pocket,” Justin Timberlake sings in his feel-good song “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” The managers of the music fund Hipgnosis and the investment company Blackstone are hoping not only for sunshine but also for tangible dollars in their pockets after they bought the rights to his old songs from Timberlake.

The deal includes all performance rights for the 41-year-old pop star and actor’s previous work, i.e. around 200 songs, including hits like “Cry Me A River” or “Sexy Back”. In total, Timberlake has released five solo albums, the most recent being Man Of The Woods in 2018.

“Justin Timberlake is one of the most influential artists of the past 20 years, his songs are not only very successful but also of lasting cultural value,” Hipgnosis founder and former music manager Merck Mercuriadis told Handelsblatt. The parties involved have not released the financial details. According to financial circles, it is about a sum of around 100 million US dollars.
