Dusseldorf With their plans, many large corporations are missing the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees compared to the pre-industrial age. This is the result of the Corporate Climate Responsibility Monitor 2023.

For the second time, scientists from the New Climate Institute and Carbon Market Watch have checked the integrity of the climate promises of 24 global companies. Among the companies are also German corporations such as Volkswagen or Deutsche Post – these, however, reject the allegations.

The emissions footprint reported by the 24 companies themselves in 2019 is around 2.2 billion tons. This corresponds to around four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions in 2019.

Ambitious companies such as iPhone manufacturer Apple are slightly better off in the ranking, but are still only rated with mediocre integrity. Deutsche Post ranks in the middle, while Volkswagen is only credited with low integrity.
