Rome The Isola di San Biagio is located on the western shore of Lake Garda. The island can be reached on foot when the tide is low, but in some places you are usually waist-deep in water. Recent videos and photos show a white embankment on which tourists walk, just getting their feet wet.

Lake Garda has less water than it has in 70 years and, according to the latest satellite images, only reaches around 40 percent of its capacity. With around 370 square kilometers, Lake Garda is the largest inland body of water in Italy – and as a freshwater reservoir is enormously important for food production in the north of the country. The Mincio river connects Lake Garda to the Po, one of the main lifelines for farmers and rice growers.
