The Central African Republic is something of a Russian satellite state, even if it is more than 5000 kilometers from Moscow.

In no other country on the continent is the influence of the Kremlin as great as here: Russian has been a compulsory language at the university since 2021, the Orthodox Church is recognized by the state, there is a Russian cultural center in the capital Bangui and a radio station founded by Russia .

Propaganda in the service of Moscow is primarily carried out by Wagner employees in the country. Almost 2,000 are said to be stationed in the country. Since the aborted rebellion of their leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, almost three weeks ago, the future of the Wagner mercenaries in Africa has been uncertain.

“You see them less and less”

The possible consequences of the failed mercenary uprising can be seen in the Central African Republic. There are increasing reports of increased troop movements in the country – and of a possible withdrawal.
