Is a new Epic Games-Apple war emerging: Genshin Impact

Another game tried to violate the App Store 30 percent commission policy, which Apple has been discussing for a long time and is in litigation with Epic Games. Finally, Genshin Impact, which even appeared in the iPhone 15 presentation, tried to bypass the commission.

Apple caught Genshin Impact game avoiding App Store 30 percent commission

Chinese mobile game studio miHoYo is the developer of the latest mobile game such as Genshin Impact. The game company, which has had very good relations with Apple until now, tried to circumvent the App Store 30 percent commission application. As you know, Apple allows in-app payments only within its own system. Thus, applications and games pay 30 percent of these payments to Apple. Again, applications and games are prohibited from using their own payment systems.

Apple, which previously deleted Fortnite, which was in a lawsuit with Epic, from the App Store, has now caught the Genshin Impact game doing a similar trick to avoid the 30 percent commission. The strange thing is that Apple caught this cheating attempt twice.

Accordingly, the first cheat appeared in August. Accordingly, miHoYo studio has launched a new payment method on its website. With a link made through the forum application, players could make in-game purchases without paying Apple Store commission. However, Apple realized this in late August and removed the Genshin Impact forum app from the App Store.

Another bad news from Apple Vision Pro! It is so heavy…

While Apple Vision Pro trials continue rapidly, the weight of the glasses has become a matter of debate. Some users experienced neck pain.

Later, miHoYo studio introduced the payment method via AliPay without deducting a 30 percent commission. However, at the beginning of September, Apple disabled this feature for iPhone users.

The fact that Apple did not take initiatives such as removing Genshin Impact and miHoYO from the App Store after its attempt to bypass the 30 percent commission was attributed to the sincere relationship between the two companies. Genshin Impact, in particular, is among the most popular games for iPhone users.

The game’s high graphics expectations and compatibility with iPhone are also important for Apple. Again, Tim Cook also visited miHoYo headquarters. However, this successive attempt at fraud could drive a wedge between the two companies.
