Iran Loosens Its Bitcoin Mining Bans For Winter!

The Iranian government recently announced that crypto mining activities were halted due to increased energy consumption during the cold winter months.

Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, Director General of Tablo, said in an interview with state broadcaster IRIB that “the activities of licensed crypto mining companies have been halted again during the winter in order to reduce the consumption of liquid fuel in Iran’s power plants at decreasing temperatures.”

Tanavir official Mashhadi added that in addition to the decision to stop authorized mining companies to save electricity, measures were also taken, such as closing electricity poles at night in safe areas and strict control of energy consumption.

Unable to reach a clear decision regarding crypto miners, the Iranian government stated that they allow power generation facilities using renewable energy sources to power licensed cryptocurrency miners.

According to local media reports, Iran’s Ministry of Energy has set new rules that allow facilities generating electricity from renewable energy sources to supply energy to licensed cryptomining businesses.

Mohammad Khodadadi, head of Tanavir’s mining business department, in an interview with ISNA news agency; “Licensed cryptominers can negotiate with renewable energy generators and negotiate their fees.” said.

The Tanavir official also said that Iran’s Ministry of Energy will play a role in creating definitive price lists for energy use.
