iOS 17.5.1 fixes bug that brought back deleted photos
Apple took action to fix the bug that caused deleted photos to reappear on devices in iOS and iPadOS. The company announced that it fixed this error by releasing the iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1 update.
Since last week, many users have reported that photos deleted years ago have reappeared on iPhone and iPad. A post on Reddit detailed the error, stating that photos from 2010 reappeared in the iCloud archive.
This error raised some questions about Apple’s backup policy. It raised privacy concerns among Apple users who thought sensitive photos were permanently removed. The version note published by Apple attributed the problem to a data problem in the Photos database.
In the statement shared for iOS 17.5.1, it was stated that “This update provides important bug fixes and addresses a rare issue where photos with database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they have been deleted.”
