The National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM) has been carrying out some studies on vulnerabilities in iOS devices that have been on the agenda for a while. Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure and BTK Co-Chairman Ömer Fatih Sayan made some warnings.
USOM detects serious vulnerabilities affecting iOS devices
Ömer Fatih Sayan stated that a serious vulnerability was discovered in iOS by USOM, and that this vulnerability poses the risk of gaining full control of the devices and stealing user data. Additionally, he stated that BTK requested an explanation from Apple and an investigation was launched.
Sayan included the following statements in his statement:
With the comprehensive cyber threat intelligence studies carried out by USOM, serious security vulnerabilities affecting iOS devices have been identified. Our Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) requested an explanation from Apple regarding the issue and also initiated an investigation.
We are ready to take the necessary measures urgently, together with the international community. We emphasize once again that serious sanctions should be applied against global cyber vulnerabilities. This is critical: It carries the risk of gaining full control of devices and stealing user data.
Apple Watch sales banned! The first statement came from the company
The decision to ban the sales of Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 came into force today. However, the company appealed this decision.
BTK Co-Chairman Sayan suggested that users with iOS devices pay attention to the following security measures.
- Update the iOS operating system to the latest version.
- Review your iMessage and FaceTime settings and temporarily disable them if necessary.
- Ensure account security by using strong passwords and update passwords regularly.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (2FA)
- Beware of messages from suspicious or unknown people.
- Avoid installing applications from untrusted sources.
- Avoid clicking on harmful or unfamiliar links.
- Regularly check the permissions granted to the applications used. Limit applications’ access to sensitive data such as camera, microphone, photos.
- Enable wireless connectivity features only when needed.
- Use location services only when necessary and restrict unnecessary apps from accessing location services.
- Prevent auto-completion of username and password information in the Safari web browser application.
