Faruk Fatih Özer and 5 detained defendants were present at the hearing, which started at 10:30 at the Anatolian 9th High Criminal Court, while the other two detained defendants were connected via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBIS). Some of the complainant’s and defendant’s lawyers were also present in the hall.
“My company was hacked”
Faruk Fatih Özer said in his defense, “The allegations in the media and in the indictment are unfounded. I did not defraud anyone. I started a company, and my company was hacked. This is how I started my business life by doing e-commerce. Our first founding purpose was to do e-commerce. Cryptocurrency caught my attention because I was involved in e-commerce. Afterwards, I saw that I would make a profit thanks to my social circle and I turned the company in this direction. I started mobile transactions with the software developers that I added to my body. My whole life was intertwined with the digital world to establish a cryptocurrency exchange. When I looked at the rival companies, I realized that they were missing and I decided to grow in this field. I present the purchase agreement that I made in the software company together with the software developers in my company. I established a coin company in Şişli on 14.09.2017 with a paid-in capital of 100 thousand liras. I also present the document I received from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce. Lighting text was presented to users who entered the Thodex site. It was determined that the person was the right person, together with the identity information of the people who were members of the site and the desired image. The trading of the site was done from the system in the background of the site. When users gave a buy and sell transaction command, the system would put them in the list order and then receive commission money on each transaction.
“The company has no other official than me”
In the continuation of his defense, Özer explained how the departments in the background of the site work. Fatih Özer stated that the defendants Cem, Ergün and Can do not have the authority to make decisions on the company and said, “All decisions taken on the company belong to me. My sister Serap Özer did not have any authority in the company. The company has no other official than me. Thodex’s transactions with the bank were done automatically. I was sending the transactions made on the company to the banks by checking them every week as an excel spreadsheet. I was the only one doing this so that there were no security holes. I want my employees to be remembered as a black mark in our legal system for the last 2 years,” he said.
