Interest rate worries are dampening – US indices are up

new York US stock markets rose on Friday as fears of inflation eased. The Dow Jones gained 1.3 percent to 33,274 points. The Nasdaq was up 1.7 percent to 12,221 and the broad S&P 500 was up 1.4 percent to 4,109. On a weekly basis, all three indices rose by more than three percent. For the month of March, the tech-heavy Nasdaq was up 6.7 percent, the S&P was up 3.5 percent and the Dow was up 1.9 percent. The differences became even clearer when looking at the first quarter: the Nasdaq gained 16.8 percent – the largest percentage quarterly increase since 2020 – while the S&P did not even achieve half as large a plus of seven percent and the Dow remained virtually unchanged.
