Munich Ordered today, delivered in a year – if things go well. The chip industry can hardly cope with the order volume. Above all, the contract manufacturers in East and Southeast Asia can no longer keep up.

The chip group Intel considers this a unique opportunity to establish itself as a contract manufacturer. What’s more: In contrast to the most important competitors TSMC and Samsung from Asia, the Americans see themselves at an advantage because they produce close to customers in Europe and the USA. “We want to offer customers in the region a resilient supply chain,” said Randhir Thakur, head of Intel Foundry Services (IFS), the Handelsblatt.
