Berlin Lithuania is a neighbor of Belarus, a loyal Putin ally, and the Russian Baltic Sea exclave of Kaliningrad is in the immediate vicinity of the state. The geographical proximity to the aggressive superpower Russia is causing fears in the Baltic States – and is determining the thinking of Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, who has been in power in Lithuania since December 2020.

In the Handelsblatt interview, the conservative politician calls on the EU to provide more money to cushion the consequences of the Ukraine war for the people of Europe. Because Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to divide the Europeans with his tactically planned energy emergency in winter.
