Industry prepares for gas supply stop

Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart In Germany, the economy trembles before a sudden stop in Russian gas supplies. The energy companies are discussing intensively with their bulk consumers where and how much gas could be saved in an emergency. Companies are scouring their production networks for systems that could be shut down without major consequences should the feared bottleneck occur.

The only thing that is clear so far is that private households and public facilities should be given priority. However, there is now resistance from the industry.

“The current prioritization of gas supplies for private households before industry urgently needs to be reconsidered,” said the new CEO of sensor specialist Sick, Mats Gökstorp, at the company’s balance sheet presentation on Wednesday. “A balance has to be found, the two areas are too dependent on each other.”
