jakarta Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo wants to promote a battery partnership with German industry at the Hanover Fair. He is counting on a breakthrough in talks with the chemical company BASF, which is currently examining the construction of a nickel refinery in the Southeast Asian country. The potential investment volume is 2.4 billion euros.

He hopes that an agreement with the German investors is imminent, Widodo said shortly before departure in an interview with the Handelsblatt. Indonesian government representatives should hold talks with BASF boss Martin Brudermüller, among other things, it said in Jakarta. “We also invite German companies like Volkswagen, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz to come to Indonesia,” said Widodo.
