Dusseldorf, Frankfurt In Germany, almost 30,000 people earn more than one million euros a year. These income millionaires are spread across the whole country, but very irregularly.

Based on the tax data from the tax offices, the Handelsblatt Research Institute has determined in which districts and urban districts a particularly large number of income millionaires have settled.

Accordingly, the almost 30,000 taxpayers, taxpayers and taxpayer couples with an annual income of more than one million euros have a pronounced preference for southern Germany, while there are hardly any top earners in the eastern German federal states. However, the German city most popular with the rich is not in the south, but in the west of the country.

The analysis is based on the income tax returns for 2019, for which the statisticians have recently completed district-specific data. There is no more recent data because the tax returns are often only prepared and checked years later.
