Frankfurt The fund service provider of the savings banks, Deka, earned more than ever before in the crisis year. The so-called economic result rose by 16 percent to almost 985 million euros, as Deka announced on Tuesday. It benefited from positive valuation effects.

Deka boss Georg Stocker was satisfied with the figures: The result shows that Deka has a “well-functioning and crisis-proof business model”. “Deka is in excellent health.” The company is the central fund service provider for around 370 savings banks nationwide. The savings banks are also Deka owners.

However, the assets managed by Deka fell by a good 20 billion euros to around 372 billion euros at the end of 2022 due to the stock market losses. At EUR 27 billion, net sales were well below the prior-year level. At that time it was almost 36 billion euros.

Savings bank customers are buying more and more certificates. Sales of certificates to private customers rose to EUR 12.6 billion after a good EUR 7 billion a year earlier. This significantly exceeded fund sales of eight billion euros.

With a view to the current year, Stocker was cautious. One plans with an economic result of 500 million euros. The imponderables remain great, he said with a view to persistently high inflation and geopolitical tensions.
