Ankara, Berlin Politically there is a problem between Germany and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but in terms of energy policy the country on the Bosporus is becoming a beacon of hope for the German government. It could soon become the vehicle of choice when it comes to supplying green energy. This Tuesday, both countries decided on a far-reaching partnership to export green hydrogen from Turkey to Germany.
In the presence of representatives of the energy industry, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Dönmez signed a corresponding declaration of intent in Berlin.
It provides for German and Turkish companies to work closely together in future on the development, construction and operation of production facilities for green hydrogen. The pact includes several cooperation agreements, including one between the German wind farm builder Enercon and the Turkish energy group Enerjisa.
The Turkish solar company Kalyon and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems also want to jointly advance new energy technologies in the future.
