While there is still no consistent explanation about the cause of the attack, which affected approximately 8,000 wallets, investors are confused. An update has come from the Solana team.
The team is working on the cause of the problem and Solana stated that it was not caused by a bug with the kernel code.
“Together with engineers and security firms from various ecosystems, we continue to investigate the root cause of the event that resulted in 8,000 wallets being emptied.
This exploit does not appear to be caused by a bug in the Solana core code. The problem may be related to popular software used among users. More updates will be provided.”
Yakovenko Says The Problem Is Due To Mobile
While the team continues to investigate the cause of the problem, a share came from Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko that the problem may be caused by iOS and Android.
“This looks like an iOS supply chain attack. Only wallets that receive SOL and no transactions other than receive seem to be affected.
Android seems to be affected as well. So far, we know that the vast majority of victims generate their keys via mobile or import the key. There are also several different users.”
