Electric car battery-battery replacement fee varies depending on the type and capacity of the products used. For example, there are many types available, from the initially used 18650 batteries to Tesla’s new 4680 batteries.
The lifespan of these batteries varies depending on their type, but can reach up to 20-25 years. Of course, we should point out that their capacity gradually decreased during this period. However, the number of times a battery is recharged is a more decisive factor in determining the lifespan of a battery than how many years it has been used.

According to the latest information, Tesla is in talks with the country’s authorities to establish a factory in India.
For example, Tesla’s newly developed 4680 batteries are 6 times more powerful than the previous generation and can store 5 times more energy. Of course, its size is just as big. However, on paper it offers a 16 percent longer range.
This shows that an important step has been taken in reducing the frequency of charging of batteries and extending their life. In fact, according to the report shared by Tesla, an average car in the USA is used for 320 thousand km before being scrapped, and in Europe for 240 thousand km. This corresponds to a period of 20+ years for the average city user.
In light of this data, Tesla says that the life of the new 4680 batteries is longer than this. However, the age at which automobiles are scrapped has increased considerably in Turkey. So much so that we even see cars whose engines have been rebuilt two or three times and have exceeded millions of kilometers, and whose rusty rear parts have been cut off and combined with another vehicle.
Therefore, we can say that electric cars in our country will undergo a full battery replacement at least once before being scrapped. So how much money will come out of our pocket for this? How much will the electric car battery-battery replacement cost in 2023?
Currently, the battery replacement fee for an average electric car is around 7 thousand dollars. While this number drops to 5 thousand in relatively low-range models, it easily exceeds 10 thousand in long-range models.
Even though we live in a period where technology advances and the number of battery-battery production facilities increases exponentially, we can say that as of today, we will encounter battery replacement fees between 150 thousand TL and 300 thousand TL in Turkey, including taxes.
Of course, many manufacturers give long warranties for batteries, such as 8-10 years. The biggest reason why such long warranty conditions can be provided is that, thanks to the new battery technology, in case of a possible problem with the battery, only the relevant batteries-cell can be removed and replaced with a new one, not the entire unit.
This indicates that instead of making a complete battery replacement in the future, we can replace batteries whose lifespan has decreased to 70-60 percent every few years for a few thousand TL or even a few hundred TL. So if you’re buying an electric car that’s more than 10 years old, you’ll face regular battery replacement costs, just like oil change costs in internal combustion cars. However, if you have already purchased a long-range vehicle, a few battery lifespans won’t make a big difference.
