How does the behind-the-wall radar system STM DAR technology work?

On February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6, which caused great destruction in 10 provinces in the Southeastern Anatolia region, caused the most loss of life in the history of the Republic. After the destruction caused by the earthquake, the search and rescue activity in which dozens of countries participated was started. Here, the behind-the-wall radar system, which was used to detect those under the debris, attracted attention. So what does the DAR device developed by STM do, how does it work?

What is a behind-the-wall radar system and how does it work?

The behind-the-wall radar system is a radar system used to obtain one- or two-dimensional position information of fixed or moving targets in closed areas, where visual confirmation cannot be provided, by means of ultra-wideband (UGB) signals.

These devices, shortly called DARs by the teams in the field, are used for military scenarios such as hostage rescue, counter-terrorism and internal security operations, as well as for civilian purposes such as rescue operations after various disasters such as earthquakes and fires.

Earthquake report: Number of dead, injured and destroyed buildings [Güncel]

We update and share the number of dead, injured and destroyed buildings announced as a result of the Southeast Anatolian earthquake.

Although this system is designed to be used in the hand, it also has the ability to be remotely controlled via a tablet by placing it in the relevant target area with the help of tripods and similar tools. Likewise, we have seen similar usage scenarios in the wreckage search and establishment works that have been going on for a few days.

note: It is stated that 78 DAR systems are currently used.
