Qualcomm, at this year’s Qualcomm Summit Snapdragon introduced its processor and shared some pretty attractive performance figures. Compared to the M2 Max, the company 30% in single-threaded performance, Compared to M2 50% in multi-threaded performance claimed that there was an increase. What do these exciting numbers mean?
Snapdragon X Elite is not a rival to M2
Looking at these figures, it becomes clear that the Snapdragon X Elite is not just an M2 rival, but perhaps an Apple Silicon M3 rival. Qualcomm got a little sneaky when it came to performance comparisons. First the single-threaded performance was compared with the M2 Max, then the multi-threaded performance was compared with the regular M2 after some time.
This serves two purposes: First, to make it seem like the Snapdragon
Strictly speaking, all three M2 chipsets deliver near-identical results in terms of single-threaded performance, and that’s because they all have more or less the same single-core specs.
Multi-core and other types of workloads are where the upper echelons of Apple Silicon really shine, and so it’s not that big of a deal that the Snapdragon X Elite is better than Apple when it comes to single-threaded performance compared to the M2 Max. A 30% increase is quite large, but compared to the regular M2 these figures are likely to be expected.
Regardless, the improvements Qualcomm boasts make the Snapdragon X Elite an impressive M3 rival. If the Snapdragon
