How China unintentionally helps Europe fill up its gas storage facilities

Berlin China is currently unwittingly helping Europe buy more liquefied natural gas (LNG) on the global market. The reason is that the People’s Republic is buying significantly less LNG than usual, so that Europe can buy the gas that has become free on the world market and thus fill its storage facilities for the winter.

Lauri Myllyvirta, senior analyst at the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air in Helsinki, told Handelsblatt: “Since June this year, China has seen its gas consumption fall for the first time in at least 20 years.”
