How buyers benefit in the real estate market

Dusseldorf The real estate market is tense, and for many people the dream of owning their own four walls is now threatening to burst: The main reason for this is the sharp rise in construction interest rates. They have tripled since the beginning of the year and are currently around three percent for ten-year financing. Inflation and the shortage of raw materials and craftsmen are causing additional uncertainty – among both buyers and sellers.

“People are cautious and reserved. They look in which direction the market is moving,” says Jörg Utecht, head of the mortgage broker Interhyp, in the podcast Handelsblatt Today.

Utecht discusses with Agatha Kremplewski why he sees opportunities for real estate sellers because of the high interest rates. “We can’t yet speak of an end to the real estate boom, but slight price declines of around one percent are already visible,” explains Utecht. In the current podcast episode, he explains how buyers can benefit from the current situation.
