Cologne After a first date, you should contact each other within 24 hours is an unwritten rule. And anyone who hasn’t heard from you after three days is obviously disinterested in getting to know each other.

But what applies to romantic encounters does not necessarily apply to the job market. It is common practice here that after the interview there is a waiting period of around one to two weeks before the company gets in touch with the candidate – in individual cases it can even take longer.

Exactly how long depends, among other things, on the desired position, the number of applicants and the size of the company – but also on how well the HR department is set up. A hotly contested IT specialist is likely to get the green light very quickly, while the school internship applicant doesn’t necessarily fall into the “rush!” category.
