His success did not last long! Helldivers 2 player count plummeting

Helldivers 2 became PlayStation’s fastest-selling game when it was first released. However, this success did not last long because there was a huge decrease in the number of players after the game was released, and this is attributed to various factors.

When Helldivers 2 was released in February, it reached 458,709 concurrent players, according to Steam data. The highest number of concurrent players in the last 30 days was recorded as 166,305. This corresponds to a 64% decrease in the number of players.

Considering the average number of players, the game had an average of 208,303 players in February, but dropped to an average of 78,634 players in the last 30 days. This indicates a decrease of 62%.

One of the most obvious reasons for this decline is the PSN obligation issue that broke out at the beginning of this month. You’ll remember that at the beginning of May, Sony, the publisher of Helldivers 2, announced that Steam players would need to connect a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to continue the game.

This announcement, along with negative comments from the disappointed community, resulted in the game being removed from sale in 177 countries where PSN is not available. Sony eventually took a step back from this decision, considering the feedback from players.

Another factor contributing to the player drop is balancing issues in the game. Arrowhead’s newly appointed chief creative officer and president, Johan Pilestedt, acknowledged that the team sometimes goes overboard with balancing. In addition, bugs and other technical problems that appeared in the game from time to time caused players to be disappointed.

In response to these issues, the Helldivers 2 team announced that they were considering a slightly lower but higher standard update frequency after the busy first few months.

In short, Helldivers 2 could not maintain the success of its first release and experienced a huge decrease in player numbers due to various problems. The development team’s efforts to make the game better with the feedback it receives may help reverse this situation in the future.
