Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) calls on the next federal government to review the level of benefits for asylum seekers.
“A European asylum law must also achieve a greater level of harmonization of social benefits, otherwise there will never be a fair distribution to other European countries,” Herrmann told BILD.
“In addition, the amount of social benefits for people for whom their obligation to leave has already been legally determined must be checked.”
Herrmann was also referring to a statement by the Greek Minister of Migration, Notis Mitarachi. The politician had declared in BILD am SONNTAG that Germany was attracting refugees with a lot of money.
If refugees make it to Germany, “they are entitled to benefits that even exceed Greek salaries”.
The CDU member of the Bundestag Olav Gutting warned the SPD, Greens and FDP against agreeing higher benefits for asylum seekers in the coalition negotiations.
Gutting said to BILD: “The fact is: asylum seekers get more money in Germany than in most other countries. I fear that the Greens and the SPD want to expand their services. That would be the wrong signal. We have to avoid a pull to Germany. “
