Hackers Accidentally Burned These 2 Altcoin Projects!

The hacker responsible for the theft of $118 million from Poloniex made a significant mistake early yesterday. On the other hand, another hacker burned almost all of the altcoin projects he stole. Here are the details…

Poloniex hacker burned this altcoin project

Acting in a hurry, the Poloniex hacker accidentally transferred 10.5 million Golem (GLM) tokens worth $2.5 million to the token’s contract address while trying to move the funds. This blunder demonstrated the common “fat finger” errors that plague the cryptocurrency world, causing an irreversible burn of funds. Despite this setback, the hacker still holds coins such as USDT, BTC, ETH, USDC, SHIB, ELON, USDD and OX. Moreover, the hacker made additional moves by selling 726,900 SAND tokens on UniSwap, converting them into 142,643 ETH and transferring them to a different wallet.

Raft hacker was also clumsy

In another unexpected development, the hacker targeted stablecoin Raft (R) and stole 1,577 Ethereum from the platform. The attacker proceeded to launder 18 ETH through Tornado Cash, ultimately burning 1,570 ETH and transferring the remaining 7 ETH to his account. After deducting transaction fees, the hacker found himself at a net loss of 4 ETH, prompting ironic comments about going to jail for such a small profit. Raft team made the following statement regarding the incident:

We are aware of a potential security vulnerability. We are currently investigating and will provide an update as soon as possible. As a precaution, further printing of R has been halted. However, existing users can still redeem their positions and collect their collateral.

The cryptocurrency wallet involved in the Raft incident currently contains approximately R3.3 million, worth approximately $19,000. The cryptocurrency community remains on edge as these unusual events unfold, underscoring the need for greater security measures and caution in the industry.
