Dusseldorf Robert Habeck is a regulatory politician. The statement may come as a surprise, as regulatory politicians often see themselves as those who set the economy as few limits as possible. The Green Federal Minister of Economics, on the other hand, repeatedly emphasizes how important a clear state compass is.
But the ministry’s competition policy agenda makes it clear that Habeck sees an active state as the right regulatory policy. “After decades of losing importance, we want to bring regulatory policy back into the focus of economic policy interest,” says the paper, which outlines Habeck’s competition policy agenda up to 2025.
According to the document available to the Handelsblatt, a “proactive competition law framework” is needed. The minister wants to intervene in various sectors in order to enable socio-ecological competition.
