Berlin Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) wants to realign the promotion of electrically powered vehicles from 2023 and make it even more dependent on climate protection than before. The Ministry of Economics and Climate announced in Berlin on Monday that only cars should be funded that have been shown to have a positive effect on climate protection.

“This should be defined by the electric driving portion and a minimum electric range.” The previous funding – the innovation bonus – will be extended by one year until the end of 2022.

Habeck emphasized: “In the future, we will be more ambitious when it comes to funding in order to give electric mobility a further boost and to strengthen climate protection. To this end, we will realign the funding. ”However, continuity should be ensured until the reorganization.

Buyers of purely electrically powered e-vehicles will therefore continue to receive funding of up to 9,000 euros in 2022. Plug-in hybrids are funded with a maximum of 6750 euros.

In the middle of last year, the existing purchase bonus (environmental bonus) for e-cars and plug-in hybrids was increased through an innovation bonus. The federal government had doubled its funding for the purchase of such vehicles, limited until the end of 2021. This had led to a sharp rise in new registrations.

Hybrid models also run on petrol or diesel. Their use for climate protection is therefore repeatedly disputed, depending on the individual use of these vehicles. The coalition agreement of the traffic light parties SPD, Greens and FDP states that the purchase premiums for e-cars and hybrids should be melted down over the years and expire in 2025.
