Green ministries are grappling with photovoltaic expansion

Berlin, Dusseldorf Three ministries, one party and one controversy: The green-led federal ministries for economics, agriculture and the environment are reluctant to expand renewable energies. Specifically, it is about the target set by Economics Minister Robert Habeck for photovoltaics (PV). The Vice Chancellor wants to increase annual installations to 22 gigawatts from 2026. In the current year, the target is still nine gigawatts.

The tricky point: Habeck wants to establish that half of this expansion will take place in open spaces. This means above all fields and meadows. The ministries for agriculture and the environment, led by Cem Özdemir and Steffi Lemke, consider this to be highly problematic, as the Handelsblatt learned from government circles.
