In addition to these, Google created SOS alerts and earthquake shaking map on Search and Maps both in Turkey and Syria. The technology giant also stated that they provide important information in Turkish, Arabic and English, including the epicenter and magnitude of the earthquake, so that the disaster can be heard by the whole world.

Google Turkey’s statement after the earthquake disaster is as follows:

After the devastating earthquakes that affected the lives of tens of thousands of people in Turkey and Syria, on the one hand, we provide funding through Google.org, on the other hand, we benefit from all our resources with our products and services and support the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in the field.

Here are the supports we have provided so far:

Financial Resource for Relief and Rescue

With the support of Google.org and Google employees, we have donated more than $5 million to non-governmental organizations that carry out relief and rescue efforts in earthquake-affected areas. In addition, through Google Search and YouTube ad grants that we provide exclusively to nonprofits through Google.org and YouTube, we support these organizations to reach people with critical information and reach new supporters and donors around the world.

Emergency Information

Helping people access reliable information and resources in times of crisis is becoming a more critical task for us than ever before. For this reason, we created SOS alerts and earthquake shaking map on Search and Maps both in Turkey and Syria; We provided important information in Turkish, Arabic and English, including the epicenter and magnitude of the earthquake. When people in the affected area call critical resources, they can access emergency phone numbers, verified websites of local authorities and see an alert that directs them to current news from trusted local and global publications. In addition, we are collaborating with local authorities and NGOs to add new information to Maps so people can quickly find what they need, including newly created emergency pharmacies, shelters, closed roads and road condition. We also see that our Google Maps tool, which allows users to create customizable maps, is increasingly being used by local communities and NGOs. Personalized maps created by these organizations, some of which have been viewed more than 9 million times, help people find places to shelter and seek help, and animal care areas where veterinarians provide support.

We sent early warnings to millions of users through the Android Earthquake Warning System, which detects the early signs of an earthquake by using the accelerometers on Android phones during earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. In addition, applications such as afetharita.com, afetbilgi.com, afetdestek.org, earthquake.io, beniyiyim.com developed by the Open Software Network community, consisting of 20,000 independent information technology volunteers, are also available through our cloud and map services with our Google Cloud and Developer teams. We support.

As always, protecting the online safety of our users is one of our top priorities during disasters. We regularly check whether our advertising policies, which regulate the types of ads and advertisers allowed on our platforms, are violated, and we work to prevent misleading and malicious ads. To protect our users, we monitor ads, search keywords and URLs 24 hours a day, every day, and take action against advertisers who violate our policies.

Our Support to Our Employees

Along with the crisis created by the disaster, we closely monitor the safety of our employees and their families, and continue to support them in this difficult time.

We offer our condolences and patience to those who lost their relatives in the earthquake disaster, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

After the disaster caused by the earthquake, aid to Turkey continues from all over the world. We hope that other big companies such as Google will show the same sensitivity and that the aid to earthquake victims will continue at full speed.
