The blue tick frenzy that started on Twitter after Elon Musk is now coming to Gmail accounts. After the statement made by Google, Gmail to determine the authenticity of their accounts. blue tick distribution will begin.
Real accounts will get blue ticks on Gmail
Google recently announced its new layer for Gmail that improves security measures. This feature seems to prevent phishing scams that trick users into capturing sensitive information. Now, a verification mark will appear next to the emails of companies, institutions or public figures.
According to Google’s statement, when you receive an email from a verified company, you will also see a blue checkmark next to the company name in your inbox. This update is what Google started testing on Gmail last year. Brand Indicators for Message (BIMI) technology will be part of it.
When you hover over the blue tick in Gmail, you’ll see a popup that says “The sender of this email has verified ownership of the domain and logo in their profile picture”. This means that Google will provide detailed information so that people who receive the email can tell if the sender is genuine or not.
It should be noted that other e-mail services do not have such a feature yet. However, the details of how companies will verify their corporate emails remain unclear for now. We think Google will open a referral system.
Considering the prevalence of phishing scams, it’s worth noting that Google’s move is remarkable.
