Beijing, Dusseldorf Europe’s economy is weakening, and the outlook in the USA is also bleak: China is the number one hope for the economy for many German industrial companies. The chemical giant BASF, for example, expects the Chinese economy to recover in the second half of 2022.
CEO Martin Brudermüller assumes that the government will react with a more differentiated strategy to contain the corona virus. Beijing will also use “dedicated measures” to stimulate the economy.
German automakers are also looking to China with confidence. After virtually no car sales in Shanghai during the tough lockdowns, sales picked up sharply in June. Audi, VW and Mercedes are hoping for further catch-up effects in the coming months. But experts warn against too much optimism – and new risks because of the geopolitical tensions between China and the USA.
