German industry calls for help

Berlin In view of the high energy prices and the ambitious German climate plans, the CEO of the energy group RWE, Markus Krebber, is calling for reduced electricity prices for industry. “I think this is necessary for the transition,” said the manager on Monday at the Handelsblatt Energy Summit in Berlin. As long as green products from Germany are in competition with non-green international products, the industry needs support.

German companies have been suffering from historically high costs for electricity and gas for weeks. Prices have more than tripled in the past few months. This is particularly hard on the energy-intensive industry.

“Prices must not remain at this high level,” said BASF board member Melanie Maas-Brunner in Berlin. Otherwise the industry would have no incentive to invest in new technologies with which the goal of climate neutrality should be achieved in the coming years.
