Dusseldorf The Russian gas company Gazprom declared force majeure to several major European customers on Monday. The Düsseldorf energy group Uniper confirmed this to the Handelsblatt.

“The company has retrospectively asserted force majeure for past and current shortfalls in gas deliveries,” a company spokesman said. However, this requirement is not considered justified. Uniper has therefore already formally rejected the claim.

Force majeure is the French and legal term for force majeure. This circumstance, through no fault of their own, makes it impossible for a company to comply with certain contracts.

Since June 14, Gazprom has massively reduced its deliveries via Nord Stream 1, citing technical defects as the reason. Critics, on the other hand, accuse the Kremlin of political calculations with regard to the restricted gas supplies.
