Munich The wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa is threatened with special charges worth billions. The reason for this is the high failure rate of wind turbine parts. The energy technology group Siemens Energy is therefore withdrawing its profit forecast for the current fiscal year, as the company announced on Thursday evening in Munich.

The board of directors of the Spanish Siemens Gamesa is currently examining the wind turbines installed on land and their product design. “The current status of the technical review suggests that achieving the desired product quality for certain onshore platforms will incur significantly higher costs than previously assumed.” This is likely to reach billions.

The hoped-for improvements in productivity at Siemens Gamesa also fell short of expectations, the company admitted. “In addition, we continue to see difficulties in ramping up production capacities in the offshore area,” i.e. with wind turbines on the high seas.
