Freighter with VW luxury cars sinks off the Azores

Lisbon The freighter wrecked in the Atlantic off the Azores with thousands of VW Group cars on board has sunk. This was announced by the captain of the next port on the Azores island of Faial on Tuesday. Recently, heavy seas had made it difficult to salvage the ship. The freighter was to be towed to either Europe or the Bahamas.

The “Felicity Ace” caught fire near the Azores. Electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries caught fire. The approximately 200 meter long freighter had loaded almost 4000 vehicles from various VW brands, including models from Porsche, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini, and was on its way from Emden, the most important VW loading port, to the USA.
