Dearborn The chip crisis and global supply chain problems also slowed down Ford at the beginning of the year. In the first quarter, sales fell by five percent compared to the previous year to 34.5 billion dollars (32.7 billion euros), as the carmaker announced on Wednesday after the US stock market closed. Adjusted operating income before interest and taxes fell 41 percent to $2.3 billion.

The net result was even with 3.1 billion dollars in the red. The reason, however, was a $5.4 billion accounting impairment of Ford’s stake in electric car company Rivian. Despite the difficult first quarter and ongoing business risks such as the Ukraine war and high inflation, Ford confirmed its profit targets for the full year.
