Ford took action to heat homes with electric cars!

Tesla and Chinese companies continue to compete in the electric car transformation. However, Ford, not wanting to be left behind in this regard, took a different step. Although it is not very common in Turkey, it is possible to charge electric cars at home. But is the opposite also possible? Ford established an important partnership for this technology. In this way, it will be possible to heat and cool the house with an electric car.

Ford will use electric cars to heat and cool the home

Although we do not use it in Turkey, smart thermostat use is quite common in the USA. In this sense, Ford established an important partnership with smart thermostat manufacturer Resideo. According to this partnership, Ford electric cars will be able to transfer energy for heating and cooling of homes.

Thus, it is expected that houses will move more independently of mains electricity and save energy. With this new investment, Ford is seeking to have a positive impact on electric car sales.

Although this technology includes Ford and Resideo smart thermostats, there is a possibility that other companies will follow this path. It is an important charging station, especially for smart homes and electric cars. However, using an electric car for home heating will be useful, especially in emergencies such as power outages.

Ford and Resideo started trials for double-sided energy transfer called V2H. In these trials, the double-sided electric transmission infrastructure of the Ford F-150 electric pickup truck is used. It is expected that the trials will be completed in the first half of 2024. Thus, the project will be implemented before the end of 2024.

Meanwhile, KIA and Nissan are currently conducting trials for V2H double-sided electric transmission. Smart thermostat companies such as Nest and Ecobee also continue these researches.

Despite all these advantages, keeping the battery charged for electric car models is important for range. The fact that the number of electric vehicles and the number of stations is still low makes it even more important to keep the batteries charged. In this sense, it seems that it will not be easy to convince a driver to heat his home with his electric car. Still, such experiments are important for the future of technology.
