During his visit to Kiev, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Development Ministry, Niels Annen, emphasized the important role of a strong civil society in Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. Social achievements could support the country’s resilience much more than short-term action, said the SPD politician. He spoke, among other things, of independent municipalities and communities as well as investments in the IT sector. “These are the points that make Moscow much more nervous in the long run than a possible arms delivery to Ukraine.”
The Russian policy has already severely damaged the Ukrainian economy and has had an impact on investments in the country. Therefore, as a close partner of Ukraine, it is important to show that you will not be deterred by this situation, said Annen. “We are a country that invests in Ukraine for the long term.” Germany is an important, maybe even the most important, partner for democratic Ukraine.
