Stuttgart Carla Kriwet was the first woman to hold the top position at Europe’s largest home appliance manufacturer BSH. The 51-year-old is now leaving the Bosch Group. She has decided “to leave the company for personal reasons on April 30, 2022 and to take on a new challenge outside the Bosch Group,” the manufacturer said, including the brands Bosch, Siemens and Neff.

The decision must have been made at very short notice. In the first message, which is only a few lines long, there is no word of thanks from the company. This is extremely unusual for the unlisted foundation group. A short time later, two more quotes were added.

“We regret her decision and wish her all the best for the future,” says Christian Fischer, Vice President of the Bosch Group and Chairman of the BSH Supervisory Board. Carla Kriwet has guided BSH very successfully through the difficult phase of the pandemic and the many challenges associated with it, and also provided many new impetus.

A quote from Kriwet himself followed: “I would like to thank all my colleagues for the close and always trusting cooperation and leave with the certainty that after two record years, BSH is excellently prepared for the future.” She didn’t choose which new job she was taking on open minded.

Multiple job changes

The top manager has changed positions more than once. She was previously at ABB, Daimler Transportation, Boston Consulting, Linde and Drägerwerk. Bosch recruited the daughter of former Thyssen boss Heinz Kriwet from Philips for the BSH household appliance division in 2021.

At Philips, she was on the board of directors responsible for digitization and in medical technology for patient monitoring. At BSH, she was tasked with advancing the topic of digitization and networking. She hasn’t stayed for two years now.

Just three weeks ago, Kriwet presented the business figures for 2021 in a virtual conference and gave no sign of her migration plans. 2021 brought the Munich Bosch subsidiary a record year. Sales increased by twelve percent to 15.6 billion euros.

The effects of the Ukraine war should also remain manageable. Less than five percent of 2021 revenues will come from countries at war. Production in Russia has now come to a standstill. However, it is already becoming more expensive for German consumers due to increased raw material costs and delivery bottlenecks. BSH has just increased the prices for devices by five percent.

BSH was a joint venture between Bosch and Siemens for a long time, but has been part of the Swabian group since 2014. Under his sole leadership, things went awry at times. Companies like Samsung pushed massively onto the European household market. But Kriwet provided good figures, also because many people were unable to travel during the pandemic and used their budgets for new household appliances.

CFO Gerhard Dambach will also take over the chief post until further notice.
