Dusseldorf Whether travel, gastronomy or care: Even after more than two years, the pandemic remains an endurance test for many industries and for their employees. To date, many of the areas that have been hit hard by lockdowns and the like have only slowly recovered from the consequences.

At the same time, the signs on the job market have changed: Instead of reports of short-time work, one job record is now chasing the next, unemployment is at a low level. The shortage of skilled workers that has been warned about for decades is becoming increasingly obvious.

The Handelsblatt has portrayed three people who experienced hard cuts during the Corona period and turned their backs on their industry to start again. For an ex-nurse, her lateral entry into IT was above all a financial improvement. Others reflected on their professional and private lives during the crisis and asked themselves: Am I still in the right place here?
