Financial Assets of Domestic and Foreign Investors Increased

The Capital Markets Association of Turkey (TSPB), the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) and the Central Registry Agency (MKK) announced the Financial Market Summary Data for June 2023, which was compiled based on data. According to the data, the financial assets of domestic investors increased significantly.

Stock assets of domestic investors increased by 156 percent in one year and reached 1 trillion 936 billion liras. However, the increase was limited to 5.5 percent due to the election uncertainties in the first half of this year. 917.6 billion lira of the stock assets of domestic investors belong to institutional investors and legal entities, and 1 trillion 18 billion liras to individual investors.

The number of investors with balance in the Borsa Istanbul stock market continues to increase. At the end of June 2023, the number of investors with balance increased by 689 thousand compared to the end of 2022 and reached 4 million 472 thousand people. In addition, the number of active investors increased by 670 thousand and reached 3 million 772 thousand people.

The financial assets of domestic investors also increased significantly. Compared to the first half of the previous year, it increased by 67 percent and reached 17 trillion 967 billion liras. The biggest growth in the financial assets of domestic investors was seen in public and private eurobond assets. Public eurobond assets increased by 43.2 percent, while private eurobond assets increased by 44.4 percent.

Domestic investors’ TL deposits also increased with the effect of the Currency Protected Deposits. It increased by 120.6 percent on an annual basis and by 37 percent in the last 6 months, reaching 6 trillion 344 billion liras. Foreign exchange deposits, on the other hand, increased by 21 percent in the first 6 months of the year and reached 4 trillion 346 billion liras.

The financial assets of foreign investors also increased. It increased by 100 percent on an annual basis and by 19.5 percent in the last 6 months, reaching 1 trillion 586 billion liras. The stock assets of foreign investors increased by 109.5 percent to 783.4 billion liras.

According to TSPB data, foreign investors’ TL deposit assets increased by 57.4 percent, while their foreign currency deposit account assets increased by 39.5 percent. Precious metals warehouse accounts, on the other hand, increased by 112.3 percent on an annual basis and by 52.8 percent in the last 6 months, reaching approximately 19 billion liras.
