Federal government stops subsidies for gas heating

Dusseldorf The state subsidy for new gas heating systems ends earlier than planned: This Thursday, a change in the so-called federal subsidy for efficient buildings (BEG) will come into force. This means, among other things, that homeowners who install a new gas heating system can only apply for state subsidies up to and including August 14 of this year. After that, you pay the full price yourself.

So far, the federal government has assumed up to 40 percent of the costs for the installation of new gas hybrid systems. For gas condensing boilers that were “renewable ready” – i.e. able to work with solar thermal devices, for example – there was a cost reduction of up to 20 percent.

Experts are surprised by the sudden change at this point in time. Reinhard Loch, head of the energy efficiency group at the consumer advice center in North Rhine-Westphalia, says: “I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. But the political pressure to act was probably great.”
