Family-owned for seven centuries

The Parkhotel Adler in the idyllic southern Black Forest has been run by the same family since, believe it or not, 1446. The house has experienced a lot in seven centuries: from a manor with rooms for rent, it became a post office, partially burned down in the Thirty Years’ War, then became a grand hotel and finally, after another conversion and renovation in 2019, into a boutique resort hotel.

Today it is run by Katja Newman (née Trescher) in the 16th generation. Marie Louise of Austria, Napoleon Bonaparte’s wife, stayed here, as did Tina Turner and Udo Lindenberg.

If you think that some of the buildings in the pictures look familiar – such as the listed Black Forest house or the annexe from the Belle Epoque – then it might be because parts of the television series Schwarzwaldklinik were also filmed here.
